This models a cutout for a MAF Corp. Heat Set Serial Number Tag
(https://maf-arms.com/product/heat-set-serial-number-tag/). The tags give you
an easy way to serialize a 3D printed firearm or suppressor to comply with US
Federal (NFA) and/or state/local serialization requirements. The tags are
inexpensive ($15), well made, and look very professional. They are meant to be
heat-set into the printed item, but it's hard to do that "cleanly" - especially
on high-temperature materials such as CF/GF reinforced nylon.

With this cutout model, you can use the slicer to create a recess in an
existing model that the tag will fit into. To permanently affix it, either use
a little epoxy on the back, or use heat to "mushroom" the posts that protrude
through the tag. A soldering iron or the back of a drill bit heated with a
torch works well for this.

How you add this cutout with the slicer will vary depending on the slicer
software. For Slic3r-based programs (Prusa, Orca, Bambu, etc.) do the
following:

1. Add the model you want to print.
2. Right-click on the model and select "Add Negative Part" -> "Load...".
3. Select the STL file for this model.
4. Select the "negative" part and move/rotate it into position.
5. Slice and print!

The depth of the model is about 2x the actual tag. If you plan to epoxy the
tag, you can position the negative so about half of it is below the surface of
the part. If you plan to "heat rivet" by melting the pins, position it to full
depth so you have enough protruding material to melt over and secure the tag.

If you're a designer, I encourage you to use this model to add a tag socket to
your designs. NFA regulations aren't likely to ever be lifted and legislation
requiring serialization at the state and local level is likely to spread.
Giving users who can't affort the potential cost of civil disobediance an easy
way to comply can help increase the popularity of your design.
