What is the Heat Set Serial Number Tag?

A 304 stainless steel serial number tag that heat-sets into a 3D-printed or plastic frame. MAF engraves it with the serial, model, and manufacturer information you enter at checkout, and the marking meets ATF depth and size requirements for serializing a Form 1 build under 27 CFR 478.92.

Read this before you order: character limits

Each of the three engraving lines has a 20-character limit. Text over 20 characters per line will not fit. Count your characters before you check out. This is the single most common ordering mistake on this product. Roman letters and Arabic numerals only, hyphens allowed. Your serial may not duplicate an existing firearm serial number.

Installation

The tag must be placed so the markings are easily seen with the naked eye during normal handling, and unobstructed by other markings on the assembled firearm. Install it before submitting your Form 1.

• Bend the tag to conform to the surface it is going on.
• Use a soldering iron to heat the tag and push it down into the frame.
• Start heating in the middle and work outward until it sits flush.
• Smush some of the plastic coming through the holes over the tag to lock it in place.
• Some sanding and finishing may be required.
